  • Pelvic prolapse conditions
  • Urinary incontinence
  • Menopause symptoms
  • Pelvic pain

What should I expect from a gynecological exam?

Exactly what happens at your gynecological visit depends on your age. For adolescents getting their first exam, Dr. Krause or Michele may focus more on what to expect from menstrual periods, while mature women may receive counseling on menopause.

Most appointments involve a physical exam and thorough review of your medical history. Depending on your needs, Dr. Krause or Michele may also perform additional tests and exams, such as:

  • An external genital exam
  • A pelvic exam that checks your vagina, cervix, and internal organs
  • A Pap test to screen for abnormal changes to your cervical cells

How do you diagnose and treat gynecological conditions?

If you come to the office with specific concerns or your provider discovers something unusual during your exam, they may suggest specific diagnostic tests, such as an ultrasound or blood test.

In some cases, you may need a more advanced diagnostic procedure, such as hysteroscopy or laparoscopy. With hysteroscopy, Dr. Krause inserts a thin, lighted instrument with a camera into your uterus through your vagina. The hysteroscope projects an image of your uterus onto a screen to help with diagnoses.

Laparoscopy is similar, except Dr. Krause makes a small incision inside your vagina or on your abdomen to insert the laparoscope. He may suggest laparoscopy to diagnose or treat certain conditions, such as endometriosis. He may also use this technique to perform minimally invasive hysterectomies, which remove your uterus through tiny incisions.

Dr. Krause is highly skilled in a broad range of gynecologic procedures, including:

  • Bladder repair surgery
  • Endometrial ablation
  • Laparoscopic hysterectomies
